Teaching Missionaries’ Children

in Brazil

June 2007

Dear Praying Friends,

Thank you so much for your faithful prayers for the ministry of Northeast Brazil.  It is wonderful to see how God is blessing the work at the Baptist Church in Curió.  The month of May was declared the "Month of the Family".   It included: a week-end conference with one of the professors from the seminary, a family dinner and the celebration of the first anniversary of the ministry of our first national pastor.  Professor Jaimie Augusto, who had been one of our pastor's professors spoke on the "Beatitudes of the Pastor" and gave a wonderful challenge to the church concerning their responsibility to a pastor as well.  It was an uplifting conference.

We have concluded our year of classes at the Academy.  On May 25th we graduated 5 seniors, two of which are 2nd generation graduates of the Fortaleza Academy. They have all been accepted by Christian colleges in the States to begin their studies this fall.   Some of them have already left for the States and have jobs for the summer.  Pray for their adjustments and that of their parents.

Continue to pray for the needs of the Academy.  We have so few missionaries in the city to do the administrative tasks of the Complex and Academy.  We still need high school teachers in the areas of Bible, Science and Physical Education.

I am excited about some opportunities the Lord has given me for summer ministry.  I am doing a Bible study with two ladies that I met in the beauty salon.  I offered to do the study with one of the ladies when she asked me about why people in Bible times lived to be 900+ years old.  She went on to say, "I just don't know anything about the Bible."  When I went to get her for the study, she had another lady with her.  I think it was her security blanket.  I think she was fearful of what she had gotten herself into.  The first study went well.  I gave them a Gospel of John and a Bible study book and asked them to read John 3 before we meet again on Tuesday.  Pray that the Holy spirit will open their understanding.  Pray that I will have the right words to answer their questions.

Another opportunity as a result of the English Club ministry.  Ismania is a lawyer and  teaches law  at the University of Fortaleza.  She is also working on her doctorate in International Law.  She doesn't speak a lot of English, but she wanted someone to help her with an English course she is studying.  When we met yesterday, she also brought with her the Bible study that we were doing in English club.  I discovered that she is a Mormon, and her daughter studies at the University of Utah.  Pray that I will be able to establish a friendship with her that will also open doors of opportunity to show her the truth of the Word of God.

PRAISE:
  1. Good number in the English club
  2. Salvation of a young lady at English Club
  3. Summer ministry opportunities
PRAYER:
  1. Salvation of 4 men in the English Club

  2. Need for teachers at the Fortaleza Academy
  3. Adjustment for the 5 graduating seniors
  4. Summer Bible studies / salvation of the 3 ladies
  5. Guidance for future ministry

Thank you for your faithful prayers and financial support.  They are a real source of blessing to me.

Yours in His service in Brazil,

Helen Wing
