Confusion - good sermon, thanks - view full conversation
What God has Done for America - Memorial Day - Independence Day - While the Biblical message is right on, some of the historical info is questionable. For example John Adams was not the first leader of the American Bible Society (ABS History). I could find no record where American Bible Society was started by an "act" of congress. I could not find where Patrick Henry stated that the country was founded on the Gospel of JC. I would welcome info where this statement is taken. The "wall" at the church in Jamestown is a "tower" that remains from the fourth church built at the Jamestown site. I only bring this up so that we can be historically accurate when standing before our congregations. Otherwise our credibility will be damaged and the cause of Christ will suffer. I did find in researching this info that in 1821 the first Chief Justice of the US, John Jay, was elected president of the American Bible Society. - view full conversation

Men Behaving...Godly! - Father's Day - Awesome sermon!!!! I know that this must have taken several services to deliver, or at least I hope it did. This sermon if received by the men of our church could change America over night. One suggestion - why not include a point along with anger, aloofness etc about non -gender men = those whose masculinity has been stripped by society and disparaged by the church to such an extent that they are neither male nor female in their roles. God bless you for one of the most excellent sermons for Fathers I have seen or heard in a long time. - view full conversation

So Much To Remember! - Memorial Day - An inspiring sermon for troublesome times, it should be preached in every church in America. God bless you, Jerry Shirley - view full conversation
So Much To Remember! - Memorial Day - I would have to partially disagree with Bro. Back. I would agree with him if HE KNOWS Bro. Jerry''s congregation and it is applicable. I would disagree with him if he does not know the congregation. Hopefully (I beleive it is so) Bro. is developing these messages to meet the needs of whom he is preaching to using the scripture and Holy Spirit as the foundation. Based on that premise, the purpose is not to impress us but rather to obey God and preach a message that is needed. One of the greatest preachers of our denomination, one time, told me "Only 50% of church members in a typical Baptist Church are saved." He furthere stated that of those who never come except to Hatch, Match, and Dispatch about 90% are unsaved. Those whom are regular at at 90%. May God richly bless you Brother Jerry. - view full conversation
So Much To Remember! - Memorial Day - Thanks Pastor Jerry: I liked the sermon but I think you were preaching to the Choir a little bit. We all do sometimes. When it comes to Old Paths it time to come out hiding behind the pulpits and preach not worring about our members. Easily said but not so easily done. Thanks Jonathan Back Mesquite Church of God Mesquite Tx - view full conversation

Reading Someone Else's Mail - Seven 7 Churches - Ephesus - Duty - Definitely a timely message for today as well as 2000 years ago. My our hearts, minds and ears be opened as God speaks to us in these last days! Pastor Cliff - view full conversation
Church - I think that, certainly as a christian, a child of God, one must say ans defend the things one believes. So if Jerry makes up a sermon, believes he''s led by the Spirit and doesn''t strike against the biblical principels... noone can oppose him here. If one has a different view, he can use the internet as well to spread his views (as they do), but starting a confrontation is not building up the good work for the Lord. I myself have been encouraged and helped a lot in my servicing the small church I may lead in Belgium and I''m gratefull for the insights and PP-help I can get from Jerry here. Blessings, K. Buntinx - view full conversation
Church - Thanks for your work. For the most part I agree with you...for the rest of the parts please consider...“The Beauty of the Balance – Toward an Evangelical-Pentecostal Theology” written by Dr. Terry Tramel. The Beauty of the Balance seeks to find common ground between Evangelical and Pentecostal theology, as well as offering a better articulation of some of the controversial claims of Pentecostalism. The Beauty of the Balance contains these seven chapters: 1)Scripture –“An Eternal Word” 2) Son of God – “An Exalted Word” 3) Salvation – “An Evangelical Word” 4) Sanctification – “An Essential Word” 5) Spirit Baptism – “An Empowering Word” 6) Suffering – “An Encouraging Word” 7) Second Coming – “An Expectant Word”...if nothing else you can use the outline! God Bless You!!! - view full conversation
Wanted: Dead AND Alive! - The title of this sermon reminded me of Steve McQueen with his TV show back in the 50''s. Always someone wanting him dead, or alive as well. Thank God Jesus was not forgotten and left in the grave. Everything we have rests in the empty tomb. With out resurrection Sunday, all the other holidays are worthless! - view full conversation
The Napkin is Still Folded - Has Heart - view full conversation
The Napkin is Still Folded - This is said to be an email rumor. It should be taken off or validated. I almost used it in my sermon for Easter. - view full conversation
The Napkin is Still Folded - I am not sure about the folded napkin either, I find it interesting that the scripture does specifically mention the folded burial cloth over his head, found separate from the other linen, "folded up by itself". Even if this is not accurate, the concepts found in your message are excellent and straight to the point which is what Easter is all about. Thank you - view full conversation
The Napkin is Still Folded - Sounded great, but I can''t find anything that validates this "Hebrew tradition" about the folding of napkins at mealtime. Seems to be a popular e-mail with no validity. - view full conversation
The Napkin is Still Folded - The status of the neat cloth has more to do with a need to counter the notion that thieves may have stolen the body. Thieves could not have possibly made off with the body and left the burial cloth so neatly. John''s description of the cloth simply serves to lend veracity to the fact that Jesus must have indeed risen again, without so much as disturbing the cloth. Sources: IVP Bible Background Commentary pg. 316 or Life Application New Testament Commentary pg. 458 - view full conversation
The Napkin is Still Folded - Thank you for this beautiful sermon, God has really blessed you!!I pray Gods blessing over your life!! - view full conversation

Spiritual Gifts: Service After Surrender - The sad part about the statue story is that it is a legend, not a true story. No one knows where the cathedral is (Enland or some other part of Europe?). No pictures are available. It''s an amalgamation of stories. We need to be careful about these kinds of things. - view full conversation

The Audacity of Faith - Inauguration Week - Hello Brother Jerry, I Praise God for your ministry for it has been a blessing to me. However, today it doesn,t afford me any joy to respond to this sermon on "The Audacity of Faith." I see in this sermon your political persausion cloaked in The Word. The Word of God, as you well know, itis to be taught and preached for the purpose of saving and maturing souls. In this sermon I see a political persuasion that has no relativity to "change we can believe in" and "yes we can." Why can''t you find it in your Christian heart to accentuate the positive, ie "out of many we are one" consider the "United" States those that bobily witnessed the inauguration the state of our beloved nation, Indeeed abortion is immoral but so is what was done to the many thousands who suffered from the storm Katrina and because of the negligence from the previous political administration. If we are going to advocate the seperation of church and state, we should do devoid of hypocrisy. Let the Word be used for its kingdom purpose and let the arena of politics be just thst politics but if you insist on the contrary, then be fair in using the word to address all evil and immoral ills of our day, i.e.the torture which is inhuman and against the geneva convention ps.Note what President Obama has recently done regarding abortion. Pastor L> D.Tatum - view full conversation

I'll Fly Away [Rapture / Second Coming] - I appreciate you and your sermons, so much, Pastor Shirley. But this time I was sad reading your sermon. You have to give away unbiblical doctrines, such as rapture and immortality of the soul, in order to be aproved by God. Are you afraid that your congregation will put you at the door? Does not matter, God will find you another one, ready to receive His Word, unaltered by human traditions. May Lord bless you. Ovidiu Radulescu - view full conversation
