NEVER SATISFIED

Proverbs 30:15-16

 

Ever known someone who couldn't be satisfied.  You can't do enough for them, they want more, more!  They see what others have and they have to have it.  It matters not what discipline others may have practiced to have those things, that money, or to take that vacation.  Maybe they worked hard and saved, and have spent years working their way up the ladder, but the unsatisfied doesn't care, they want it, and now!

 

The dissatisfied has a negative outlook, always looking for what is wrong, wanting a problem, and they always find it...yet it's not enough!  They thrive on being a victim and having trouble.  You can solve their problem and it only aggravates them, because they want to feel that way!

 

Sometimes you cannot do enough for children...the more you do for them, the more they take you for granted and demand even more!

 

Our text lists four things that are never satisfied:

 

I.      THE GRAVE IS NEVER SATISFIED

 

A.                This Is Speaking Of Death.

 

The door of death never has a “No vacancy” sign on it. Death never takes a holiday. Death never fails to accommodate one more.

 

Death is never satisfied. In Gen. 5 we see eight different accounts of death taking place. Vs. 5,8,11,14,17,19,27,31.

 

This tells us that everyone dies - No one escapes.  There’s nearly 7 billion on planet earth now, but the death rate is still “1 per person”.

 

The grave machinery is always busy.

 

Eccl. 3:3, “A time to be born, and a time to die.”

 

More than 30 million people die annually. That is 3400 every hour.  Fifty-seven graves will be dug in the next 60 seconds. That’s one every second. As I speak, one dies, and another, and then another.  1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. On and on and on.

 

B.         No One Escapes Death.

Heb 9:27  “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

 

1. Age is not respected by the grave.

2. There are all sizes of graves in the graveyard.

 

The grave cries out, “More, more, more.

 

C.         There is A Spiritual Death.

 

The spiritual grave is suggested in this also, and we will talk more about that in a few moments.

 

There are over 10,000 Baptist churches that did not have one single baptism this past year. That kind of Christianity is dissatisfying. It’s no wonder that Baptists can’t reach the lost – so many are dead. Who wants to join the ranks with the dead?  And Baptist churches are leaders among evangelicals.  Need I talk about how dead many others are?

 

 

II.    THE BARREN WOMB IS NEVER SATISFIED

 

A.                There Is Something Within A Woman That Longs For A Child.

 

B.        The Great Commission.  Matt. 28:19-20.

 

Mat 28:19-20  “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in

the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

 

1. The innermost desire of a born again Christian is to win others to Christ.

2. A saved person wants to see others saved.

3. How long has it been since you have taken a spiritual stethoscope and gone to an individual and were unable to find a heartbeat, but then after an application of the healing balm of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that heart began an eternal beat?

4. You will never be completely satisfied spiritually until you begin to witness for Christ on a regular basis.  Nothing else will satisfy. Entertainment will not satisfy. Job advancement won’t satisfy.

5. The barrenness of your soul will cry out,

“Dissatisfied - dissatisfied.”

6. You can seek until the end of the earth and never find total satisfaction.

7. The barren womb cries out in dissatisfaction.

 

John Wesley exemplified this with the cry, “Give me England lest I die.”

 

Paul cried out in Rom 10:1  “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.”

 

God cannot entrust new little ones to many churches because He knows that he cannot trust them to keep them warm and help them grow. 

 

Much of the deadness and dissatisfaction among churches could be resolved today by eliminating the barren womb.

 

 

III.   THE DRY GROUND IS NEVER SATISFIED

 

I grew up in New Mexico, where it was very hot and dry, and you could see the ground with large cracks in it as a result of the dryness. I took a water hose and let it run for several minutes in one of those cracks and it never did fill it up. I don’t know where the water went.

 

The earth is a type of humanity.

The water is a type of the Holy Spirit.

 

Man (a type of earth) Can Never Be Satisfied Until He Is Full

Of Water (a type of the Holy Spirit.)

 

Isa 44:3  “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:”

 

David in one of his darkest hours realized the need of the Holy Spirit. Psa 51:11  “Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.”

 

Jesus instructed His disciples that the Holy Spirit would guide them in all things. The absence of the Holy Spirit will bring a defeat and discouragement.

 

 Psa 42:1-2  “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.  My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”

 

There is no measure of misery of the man who is empty and thirsty for God.

 

“I’ve a yearning in my heart that cannot be denied,

It’s a longing that has never yet been satisfied;

I want the world to know The One who loves them so

Like a flame it’s burning deep inside.

 

To be used of God to sing, to speak, to pray,

To be used of God to show someone the way:

I long so much to feel the touch of His consuming fire

To be used of God is my desire.

 

 

IV.   THE FIRES OF HELL ARE NEVER SATISFIED

 

“and the fire that saith not, It is enough.”

 

Prov 27:20  “Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.”

 

The fire will burn as long as it is fueled. It will never be satisfied and cry for no more fuel.

Hell Has Been Enlarged To Accommodate The Multitudes.

Isa 5:14  “Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure...”

 

Satan is not concerned with how many are now condemned to hell. He wants ONE more. Hell is never satisfied.

 

Jesus said three times in Mark 9, “The fire is not quenched.” The fire of hell never burns itself out. It is never satisfied.

 

There are those who tell us that hell is not real. Mat 25:41  “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”

 

1. The fire of hell will last as long as heaven lasts. Heaven never ends.

2. Hell is never satisfied.

3. Hell is prepared for the devil and his angels.

a. God does not intend for one human to go to hell.

b. He has provided a way of escape for everyone from the fiery flames of hell.

 

The Bible tells us that most people will not hear the warning, and will

instead stumble off into hell.

Mat 7:13  “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:”

 

Many will be the number that will attempt to satisfy the cry of hell. The sounds of hell are deceiving today.

 

We Hear The Wrong Message From Hell Today.

 

1.     Not the cry of torment.

2.     Not the weeping of a mother who was separated from her children.

3.     Not the wailing of a dad who ignored the warnings of hell.

4.     We don’t hear the crying and weeping of a teenager who didn’t make ready for death.

 

Instead we hear, “Hell’s not real.”

“No intelligent person really believes in hell.”

“God wouldn’t send a person to hell.”

 

These are all lies coming from the “Dissatisfied Fires Of Hell.”

 

Every person in hell right now truly believes in hell.

 

We must not close on the negative…

 

V.    JESUS DOES SATISFY

 

Psa 107:9  “For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.”

Isa 58:11  “And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.”

Jer 31:14  “And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD.”

 

Every saved person can readily testify that Jesus does satisfy.

 

O soul, are you weary and troubled?

No light in the darkness you see?

There’s a light for a look at the Savior,

And life more abundant and free!

 

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look full in His wonderful face,

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of His glory and grace.
